Take a closer look, please.

Take a look at this picture:

Let me describe it to you since the colors didn't show up well on my camera phone. Pink socks, flowery jeans. pink and purple butterflies on the top (oh, and a pink elephant toy hanging on the carseat).

Now, if you were a random person in Chick-Fil-A and you saw a baby dressed like this, what gender would you guess this baby is?

Hhmmmm.....

And, if you happened to guess incorrectly, would you be utterly shocked when told that she is, in fact, a girl?

Come on, people.....

SERIOUSLY.

We used to take Ali out in all pink AND in her hot pink jogging stroller, and people would still say what a cute little boy she was.

I finally decided that people always guess without studying the evidence and people are always WRONG.

Agreed, people MUST guess without studying the evidence. And I have to confess, I feel a little bit of pressure sometimes trying to identify the gender of babies without staring too long and making the parent think it's hard to tell. I usually just say something along the lines of, "what's this little one's name?" Although, that doesn't always help you out!

It never fails... even with PINK everything, and ribbons and bows AND pink or "girlie" toys. That's why my friends swear by earrings for babies. I never did that with Jaiden, though. She still has naked ears at 7! :)

I think it's a sign that we're in such a ridiculously sexist country that everyone always assumes that every living, breathing child must be a boy. Civilized? I think not!

Yep, Anne also is referred to as 'such a handsome young boy' when she's in head-to-toe pink. Gotta love it.

Seriuosly, no obviously only a girl would be dressed that way. I was no hair peach fuzz baby so my mom got those same mistakes.

But come on! No boy would be in pink

That's crazy! I've had the same thing happen with Aubrey and if you just saw her carseat I'd understand b/c it's green, blue, and gray..doesn't exactly scream girl, but there's a huge pink dog toy hanging on it and Aubrey is always dressed in very girly colors! I think a lot of people don't think before they speak!

I don't even have to tell you how many times this has happened to us. Everyone told me what a beautiful little girl Landen was when he was a toddler and now everyone tells me what a handsome boy I have when I'm out with McKaylee. You would think the her pierced ears would help but, alas, some people are just that dense.
